Automatic Gates Matrix Score
What is the matrix score all about?
We have created this risk safety scoring platform in an attempt to explain most of the main safety issues involving use, highlighting any probable concerns, most if not all powered gate systems inherently possess.
What do you mean?
All automatic gates and barriers etc. are machines and as such will have dangerous aspects that should be protected against. Each area of risk that could cause potential injury or damage needs to be identified and action taken to limit each one, to an acceptable level, if not removed completely.
Why not remove the risk completely every time?
In an ideal world, with unlimited funds available and the ability to design and install the whole system from scratch, with only suitability trained users and no by-standers, we may have a chance. But even then, extreme weather, miss-use, abuse, or damage could still result in increased risk!
Is it then possible to ensure any system is 100% safe? No!
Why do a score then?
Life is partly made up from a series of risks, experience, learning and results. Each time the cycle evolves, further risks need addressing. The safety matrix platform has been developed to take advantage of many years of learning and its format allows owners to be made aware of the most likely high risk aspects of each system, so that the most effective corrective actions be considered first.
Funds available can then be used to produce a better result.
How often is the matrix used?
As soon as possible, every six months or so, or whenever there are circumstances that change the performance or function of the system. Also, when modifications, adjustments or repairs are carried out. Also, when the local conditions change and have an impact upon the resulting score, such as a change of use or temporary event (building works, party, etc.)
What is a good score?
There is not a good score, but there is a better score! Every system will have a score and even if ‘low risk’ should be improved as and when able.
What is a bad score?
Any score over 200 is ‘High risk’ and all scores over 250 are seen as ‘Serious risk’. Work to rectify these scores is strongly recommended and the owner put on alert that corrective action is necessary. Serious scores usually require system decommissioning if safe to do so, until corrective work is agreed and undertaken.
Every day concerned gate owners appreciate honest advice from caring experts!
