What is the Technical File?
‘What is the system’s technical file and why?’
Each installation has its own unique technical file so to speed up & enhance the accuracy of any work; to identify what is needed & why; to protect the owner & their investment and to save time & money!
‘What do you mean?’
As all powered gate systems are made up from hundreds of component parts and situated in a vast array of locations, used by different types of users and designed to function or perform in many alternative ways. No two installations have ever been identical in every aspect.
Even a basic system has over 100 points of data subject that needs to be identified and listed, an average domestic system can have over 150 plus test results as well as records. Much like the service history and log book of a car.
User instructions, manual override, installation, maintenance schedules and guides, are some of the customer support data that needs to be collated to suit each installation. System report, parts lists, setting records and codes, keys & cards are ongoing, aftersales information critical for each system. Test results and other service and maintenance details need to be recorded and found, when required.
History and activity records along with billing and invoicing details that are specific to a single installation, need to be identified and justified back to the right file.
Following tragic accidents involving adults and children, the accuracy of records and reports is more important than ever. System owners are liable for any damage or injury caused by the use or misuse of their powered gate.
For an owner to defend themselves from prosecution, they have to prove that they have taken adequate and reasonable steps to ensure their automatic gate etc. is in a safe working order at all time.
How could this be proven if accurate and up-to-date records are not made?
So many different types, styles, sizes, shapes and materials that the gates, piers, posts and driveways are made from, as well as the various ways each installation may be set up and adjusted, numerous finishes, local environmental changes, or type of users, by-standers, and alike, all have an effect upon recommendations made throughout each system’s life.
Without accurate records we would be unable to offer best advice, nor would we be in a position to look after your valuable investment. So many people expect systems to last forever and are shocked when they don’t, so keeping owners up-to-date and informed is useful and professional.
Everyday good engineers are trusted to collate important data so best advice may follow!
