Power Supply
The most often required power source of gate automation is 240v, 13 AMP, (3KVA) dedicated, RCD protected mains power supply. The most popular equipment used today requires less than a 13amp feed, however, for maintenance and future repairs, Gate-A-Mation recommend 13amp to maximise customer and user service. This supply should be terminated into a suitable enclosure and remain dedicated for the gate system's use only.
| Guide Only | Important Notice |
| Up to 150m run 2.5mm SWA | Individual cable requirements should be calculated for each site in line with IEE regulations relative to the characteristics of the equipment to be used and supplied. |
| 151 to 500m run 4mm SWA | |
| 501 to 700m run 6mm SWA |
Volt drop on long cable runs will adversely affect the performance of a system's microprocessor, therefore the correct size is important together with a separate earth core. Recommended cable is SWA steel wire armoured and of three cores 'earth', 'neutral' and phase (live).
Runs in excess of 700m may prove more economic to arrange for a new supply laid on by the local electricity provider. Drawings and liaison would be needed if this option were chosen.
Power supply values vary according to site conditions and cable routes together with the termination equipment needed.
