I was once asked: Are automatic gates dangerous? My answer was very simple: Automatic gates save lives!
Why? was the reply. Well all machines have dangerous aspects that if miss-used could cause injury and some may be only as safe as their design and build.
Obvious examples are all around our every day lives, they may be cars, bicycles, lawn mowers, ovens, microwaves, front doors, fires, etc. They may be in the house or out doors, but there are hundreds everywhere. If you have young children you will know this all too well, however, accidents still happen quite frequently.
There is no complete solution to every circumstance, but there is experience that teaches us to do our best and avoid as many accidents as possible.
So why do automatic gates save lives? The job they do has an important role to play in the control of access into or out of a property or area and this feature saves numerous lives each day. Many other benefits and occasional disadvantages are evident in all automatic gate installations and the design of each is unique so that it fulfils the requirements of the customer and users needs as best it can within its location or environment.
How then do they save lives? A correctly designed and installed system will, stop children running out into the road, keep pets from causing accidents or running off, traffic calming & control, lock unauthorised people out of unsafe locations, keep people or vehicles away from moving trains or other such hazards, temporary or otherwise! The list goes on and the risk to everyone has to be measured and catered for within the automatic systems design and build.
Maintenance and service is equally as important and on going system support essential to maintain the correct level of reliability and function of every installation. With this in mind all the foundations and services as well as the gate, support and automatic control system need also to be readily serviced and maintainable with access to spare parts assured.
